Shively takes crown, Rock Bridge boys win Olathe Twilight meet

OLATHE — Clay Shively pointed to the sky with both hands in the air as the crossed the finish line Saturday night on the track of the Olathe District Activity Center.

The Wichita Trinity senior who has committed to Northern Arizona beat a stacked cast at the Olathe Twilight meet that included former state champions from Kansas and Missouri.

Shively won the race that included 232 runners. His winning time was 14 minutes and 42.6 seconds, and he won the race by six seconds.

Rock Bridge senior Andrew Houser finished runner-up in his lone trip to the Olathe Twilight meet. Houser’s time was 14:48.7. He won the Class 5 state title as a sophomore and is looking to win his second championship this fall.

Shawnee Mission North senior Micah Blomker, who won the Class 6A state title as a sophomore, placed third Saturday night in a time of 14:51.2. 

Wichita Trinity senior Samuel Ferguson finished fourth, less than a second ahead of Shawnee Mission South junior Max Larson. Just behind them were Blue Valley West senior Brock Olsen (6th), Gardner-Edgerton senior Parker Walion (7th) and Rock Bridge sophomore Luke Sievers (8th).

Rounding out the top 10 were Kansas City Christian senior Andrew Schumacher (9th) and Wichita East senior Ryan Son (10).

Many other runners ran personal best or school records at the meet, which is known for being an incredibly fast, flat course that’s growing with popularity year after year.

In the team race, Rock Bridge narrowly won, scoring 116 points – just seven points ahead of runner-up Liberty. Rounding out the top five teams were Liberty North (147), Gardner-Edgergton (177) and Blue Valley Southwest (258).
