Shawnee Mission North senior Blomker, Olathe West girls win Greg Wilson Classic

Micah Blomker kicked off his season with a win Saturday at the Greg Wilson Classic in Shawnee. The Shawnee Mission North senior easily won the 5K race in a time of 15:18.4. He won the race by 19 seconds.

Blue Valley West senior Brock Olsen finished as the race runner-up. Rounding out the top five were Rockhurst junior Henry Acorn, Olathe West junior Gunnar Hornung and Olathe South junior Dylan Plath.

Rockhurst won the boys team title, scoring 74 points. Olathe West finished third with 85, with Rogers (Arkansas) taking second.

Greg Wilson Classic girls

Lida Padgett began her senior campaign with a win Saturday morning. The Shawnee Mission East runner won the race by 18 seconds, finishing in a time of 18:24.

Rogers’ sophomore Lilly Beshears finished second, just ahead of Olathe South senior Amy Gotfredson. Washburn Rural junior Payton Fink placed fourth overall to lead her team.

Although it didn’t have a runner in the top six, the Olathe West girls proved why they are the reigning three-time Class 6A state champions. The Owls’ top five finished 7th-11th to score just 45 points for the easy team win.

Olathe West was led by senior Kalyn Willingham, whose time was 19:09.5. Behind her were junior Liz Browning, senior Bree Newport, sophomore Sydney All and senior Kate Miller.
